Steven Gerrard is unlikely to face an FA rap for flashing a V-sign after being booked by ref Andre Marriner on Monday.
TV evidence showed Liverpool's skipper gesturing angrily when he received a yellow card for a foul.
Marriner took no further action, even though he was only a foot away. Unless the ref changes his initial verdict, no charges are expected to follow.
Club officials insist Gerrard's gesture was not at the ref. But Liverpool face a disciplinary rap after picking up five bookings for the second time in three matches.
